Evodrop: Swiss engineering delivering a new standard in water quality

Water is the foundation of life, and yet clean, contaminant-free drinking water is no longer a given. Reimagining how this precious resource is treated in the built environment, by combining technological excellence, scientific research and environmental responsibility, is the mission of Evodrop, a Swiss engineering firm specialising in the development of innovative and sustainable water treatment systems.

A history of international innovation
Established in Zurich in December 2019, the company has distinguished itself over the years as one of the most innovative players in the sector. “At the core of our business are advanced systems for limescale protection and water filtration. These solutions can be adapted to a range of needs, from private homes to large residential complexes and professional applications,” emphasises Dino Novia, Co-Founder & CEO.
The company has received numerous international accolades, including the Aquatech Innovation Award and the German Innovation Award, as well as various prizes at the MCE – Mostra Convegno Expocomfort trade fair in Milan. “These achievements confirm not only our capacity for innovation, but also the practical value of our solutions in the market,” continues Dino Novia.

New technologies to tackle real-world challenges
Limescale build-up is one of the main causes of inefficiency in water and heating systems within buildings. Even thin layers of limescale on boilers, heat exchangers and distribution networks can considerably reduce heat transfer, increasing energy consumption by up to 10% with just 1 mm of deposit and by up to 50% where more significant limescale build-up is present. This not only leads to higher operating costs but also accelerates system wear and tear and increases indirect CO₂ emissions. “Thanks to our proprietary technologies, it is possible to dramatically reduce limescale build-up, thereby helping to protect pipes, appliances and infrastructure in the long term,” emphasises Dino Novia. “This approach not only extends the lifespan of the systems themselves but also improves the overall energy efficiency of buildings and reduces maintenance costs.”

In particular, to address the issue of limescale formation, Evodrop has developed a new generation of salt-free systems, built on an advanced scientific approach and integrated proprietary technologies. At the forefront is the IonSiv MaloX® technology, a bio-based solution that uses malic acid to selectively bind the ions responsible for limescale formation: “This enables a certified reduction of up to 94–95%, while retaining natural minerals such as calcium and magnesium, without the use of salt, electricity or wastewater.”

Limescale protection and high-performance filtration
In addition to limescale protection, Evodrop incorporates high-performance filtration into its systems: “The technologies developed allow for the removal of a wide range of contaminants: this ensures cleaner, safer and higher-quality water for both domestic use and professional applications.”
The Nanoporous Adsorber® system, combined with PlasmaShield NanoMatrix® technology, provides extremely fine filtration down to 0.002 μm. This architecture effectively removes PFAS, microplastics, heavy metals and pharmaceutical residues, while integrating a hygienic barrier against biofilm and contamination.
Evodrop also offers solutions dedicated to drinking water treatment, designed to provide comfort, safety and taste.
“Our systems are modular in design, allowing for flexible and adaptable configurations for both the entire building (point of entry) and directly at the point of use.”

Energy efficiency and measurable sustainability
Besides helping to restore the energy efficiency of heat exchangers and HVAC systems, from an environmental perspective, Evodrop solutions stand out for their lack of electricity consumption, the elimination of wastewater, and the absence of salt or aggressive chemicals. These factors result in a significantly reduced environmental impact compared to traditional systems, with up to 100 times less use of additives and a tangible contribution to the decarbonisation of buildings.

“In a context in which responsible water management is increasingly central, Evodrop positions itself as a solution fully aligned with ESG criteria and consistent with the principles of the circular economy, providing a sustainable and technologically advanced approach to water treatment. These characteristics represent tangible added value for designers, installers and operators in the property sector.”

A glance at the future
In recent years, Evodrop has consolidated its presence in Italy, attracting growing interest from professionals and industry operators. “The solutions we offer are generating a high volume of enquiries, especially in the real estate sector, where efficiency, sustainability and water quality are becoming increasingly crucial factors.”

In a rapidly evolving international market, Evodrop continues to invest in research and development to offer state-of-the-art technologies and meet future challenges. “The aim remains to define new standards in water treatment, helping to promote a more conscious and sustainable use of one of our most precious resources,” concludes Dino Novia.
