Andrea M. Lanz

Biography

Graduated in Industrial Chemistry from the University of Rome 'La Sapienza', he has twenty-five years of experience in scientific research and environmental issues, with particular reference to waste management and the circular economy. He began his professional career in 2001 and throughout his career has held roles of increasing responsibility at ISPRA as Technologist and Senior Technologist, leading the Waste Accounting sector and coordinating the National Waste Registry. He is currently Head of the National Centre for Waste and the Circular Economy and in his role provides technical-scientific support to the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security (MASE) for the development of regulations, the monitoring and reporting of national and European objectives, as well as contributing to technical activities on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and the End-of-Waste issue, as well as to the implementation of strategic programmes such as the National Waste Management Programme. He has extensive international experience: he participates in the Technical Committees and Working Groups of the European Commission, contributes to OECD activities on waste, has provided support to the Italian Presidency of the G7 Environment (2024) and has been the EIONET focal point for the European Environment Agency (EEA). He carries out an intense technical-institutional activity, with hearings before the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, providing the information requested by Parliamentary Committees. Also active in teaching with university lectureships and advanced training courses, he is the author and co-author of over 100 technical-scientific publications, as well as coordinator and editor of the editions from 2018 to 2025 of the annual ISPRA Reports on urban and special waste.
