Final press release WONDERFUL ECOMONDO! AT THE 2025 EDITION, +7% IN TOTAL ATTENDANCE. FOREIGN ATTENDANCE up by 10%. THE ECOLOGICAL TRANSITION HUB IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY GLOBAL

·        Today marks the end of the 28th edition of Italian Exhibition Group’s green, blue and circular economy event: the most international ever

·        Minister Pichetto Fratin’s visit: “Ecomondo symbol of innovation and sustainability”

·        More than 800 hosted buyers and delegations from 65 countries

·       Over 1,700 exhibitors, of which 18% from abroad.

Rimini, 7th November 2025 – In an increasingly volatile global context, sustainability is the compass that guides governments, businesses and the scientific community. Ecomondo 2025, Europe and the Mediterranean basin’s leading international event for the green, blue and circular economies, organized by Italian Exhibition Group (IEG), came to a close today at Rimini Expo Centre, reaffirming its status as a global hub for ecological transition. A role reflected in the concrete results of an expanding 28th edition.

Total attendance grew by +7%, with +10% from abroad. Over 1,700 exhibiting brands, of which 18% from abroad, covering 166,000 square metres of exhibition space. More than 600 journalists accredited (15% from abroad), brought Rimini Expo Centre to the attention of the global community.

Underlining Ecomondo's central role on the international scene as a guide along the path towards a sustainable future that, starting in Italy, Europe is continuing to pursue with determination, was the Minister for the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, who toured the exhibition halls on Thursday 6th November. “We can count ourselves among the leading countries in the world in terms of recycling capacity,” the minister explained. “There is a lot of talk about rare earths and critical raw materials, but the largest deposit we have is our waste... And the ability to recycle is fully demonstrated at this show, a symbol of innovation and sustainability.”

ECOMONDO 2025, THE MOST INTERNATIONAL EDITION EVER

Ecomondo 2025 confirmed its status as a privileged venue for exchange between companies, researchers and professionals from around the world, also thanks to its collaboration with the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI). A global crossroads with over 800 hosted buyers and international delegations from 65 countries. The most represented markets included Spain, Turkey, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt. To complete the picture, around 90 international associations were also involved. During the event, this network generated 3,800 business matches, promoting cooperation and the dissemination of best ecological transition practices.

GREEN TRANSITION, A TRANSVERSAL OVERVIEW OF THE GLOBAL CONTEXT

Over 200 events took place over the four days, around 70 of which organized by Ecomondo's Technical and Scientific Committee, chaired by Professor Fabio Fava, in a programme packed with initiatives, offering an up-to-date interpretation of the green transition across a range of sectors. Key topics included: WEEE and critical raw materials, the circular textile industry, sustainable finance in support of the ecological transition, water management and the blue economy, bioenergy, the circular economy, AI applied to resource enhancement and data monitoring, Earth observation and the role of communication in overcoming false ecological transition dilemmas.

Considerable attention was paid to international cooperation and the green transition in the Mediterranean, as well as initiatives for accessing clean and sustainable energy in Africa, as part of the Mattei Plan and the “Mission 300” programme, with the fifth edition of the Africa Green Growth Forum.

The 14th edition of the States General of the Green Economy once again opened Ecomondo with a presentation of the Report on the State of the Green Economy 2025, placing the state and prospects of the European ecological transition in the new global context at the centre of the debate. The plenary session on the second day, held entirely in English for the first time, further broadened the international scope of the event.

The return of Sal.Ve, the biennial Exhibition of Ecological Vehicles, in partnership with ANFIA, showcased the entire product range of equipment for industrial and special vehicles for collecting solid and liquid waste, street sweeping and sewage disposal.

THE INNOVATION LABORATORY

At Ecomondo 2025, innovation bridged the gap between science and market: the Innovation District provided space and visibility to 40 Italian and international high-tech start-ups, including 20 from Morocco and Tunisia selected as part of the “Luca Attanasio” Lab Innovates for Africa project, promoted by the Italian Trade Agency in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. To accompany the exhibition, Ecomondo presented the “Lorenzo Cagnoni” Award for Green Innovation to seven exhibiting companies, one from each of the event’s sectors, for the most advanced and promising technologies.

ECOMONDO WILL BE BACK AT ITALIAN EXHIBITION GROUP’S RIMINI EXPO CENTRE FROM 3RD TO 6TH NOVEMBER 2026.

ECOMONDO – DAILY NEWS – 5TH NOVEMBER

ESG CEO SUMMIT: TOOLS AND CONDITIONS FOR A FAIR AND COMPETITIVE TRANSITION

In an increasingly unstable global context, a new world order, characterized by profound differences in approaches to transition, is emerging. In light of this new scenario, yesterday at Ecomondo 2025, the second edition of the ESG CEO Summit explored the conditions and tools for a fair transition that will enable the achievement of the objectives set, while strengthening – rather than hindering – corporate competitiveness. The meeting, opened by Corrado Peraboni, CEO of IEG, included an introduction of the reference scenario, followed by speeches from Catia Bastioli, CEO of Novamont, and Adriano Alfani, CEO of Versalis (Eni), and a round table discussion between Davide Abate, Chief Industrial Officer at Ferrari, Gianluca Bufo, CEO of Gruppo Iren, Marco Codognola, CEO of Itelyum, Alessandro Colombo, CEO of UNIDRO & SODAI, Orazio Iacono, CEO of Gruppo Hera, and Renato Mazzoncini, CEO of Gruppo A2A.

The “Accelerating Circularity in the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Sector” event, organized by the Emilia-Romagna Region & ART-ER, saw experts, institutional representatives and stakeholders gathered together to promote dialogue and share strategies for a more circular economy in the electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) sector at a European level. Based on the experiences of the CIRCOTRONIC - Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE project, the event took a closer look at key issues such as circular design, the use of sustainable materials, and innovative business models to reduce the sector’s environmental impact, with a focus on SMEs and the importance of having a solid network at multiple levels.

TEXTILES PUT TO THE CIRCULARITY TEST

Focus on circularity in textiles today at Ecomondo with the events “Urban textile waste. EPR is coming: who are the producers’ consortia and what is their vision for the development of the system” in the morning, and “Waste Shipment Regulation and its impact on the global market for post-consumer textiles” and “Made in Italy textile industry challenges and opportunities in a circular economy perspective: what next?” in the afternoon. Regulatory developments, digital transformation, public-private partnerships, sustainable and new-generation materials, ethical working practices, and scalable circular models, together with the important role of consortium systems, will enable the sector to face new global challenges, ensuring resilience and competitiveness for businesses. On this topic, a conference entitled “Environmental and regulatory compliance: daily challenges and solutions for the textile supply chain industry” is also scheduled for tomorrow, organized by Ecomondo’s Technical Scientific Committee and Next Technology Tecnotessile.

COMMUNICATING TRANSITION AND SUSTAINABILITY, A LEVER FOR COMPETITIVENESS: THE FORUM OF RESPONSIBLE COMMUNICATION

Comunicato n. 14 del 05/11/2025

ECOMONDO 2025 HAS BEGUN: RESEARCH AND INNOVATION DRIVE THE GLOBAL ECOLOGICAL TRANSITION

·        The 28th edition was inaugurated today at Rimini Expo Centre by Maurizio Ermeti, President of IEG, Michele De Pascale, President of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Jamil Sadegholvaad, Mayor of Rimini, Fabio Fava, Coordinator of Ecomondo’s Technical Scientific Committee, and Jacopo Morrone, President of the Bicameral Ecomafia Commission

·        International scope: more than 1,700 exhibitors in attendance, of which 18% foreign, 380 hosted buyers from 66 countries, over 30 official delegations and about 90 international industry associations

·        The 14th edition of the States General of the Green Economy is underway: the state and prospects of the European ecological transition in the new global context

Rimini, 4th November 2025 – The 28th edition of Ecomondo, the leading international event in Europe and the Mediterranean basin for the green, blue and circular economies, organized by Italian Exhibition Group (IEG), opened today and will be ongoing until 7th November at Rimini Expo Centre.

The event has further extended its international scope this year with more than 1,700 exhibiting brands, of which 18% from abroad, 380 hosted buyers from 66 countries, over 30 official delegations and 90 international industry associations involved, in synergy with the Italian Trade Agency (ICE) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Ecomondo 2025 occupies the entire expo centre with 166,000 square metres of exhibition space and 30 halls, offering a comprehensive overview of the ecological transition and the circular economy, thanks also to a full programme of conferences, consisting of over 200 conferences, more than 70 of which organized by the Technical Scientific Committee.

Maurizio Renzo Ermeti, president of IEG, opened the inauguration ceremony: “Ecomondo has become the event of reference for those who want to compete in global green economy markets: a moment of pride, sharing and cultural growth in terms of sustainability, an international reference point for businesses, institutions and the world of research. In over twenty years, we have seen the birth and consolidation of a supply chain that is represented here today by 1,700 brands and a foreign presence from Africa to the Mediterranean, Eastern Europe and Latin America. A result made possible thanks to the support of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Italian Trade Agency, the tireless work of our Technical Scientific Committee and the many organisations that share our commitment.”

Jamil Sadegholvaad, Mayor of Rimini, said: “The relevance of an event such as Ecomondo not only lies in its success and growing international reputation, but above all in the educational and cultural objectives that an event like this naturally pursues. While the subject matter is the object (and often victim) of ideologies and fanaticism, Ecomondo is able to present the technological, industrial and creative possibilities that can improve the relationship between humans and nature, and therefore between humanity and its future.”

Fabio Fava, coordinator of Ecomondo’s Technical Scientific Committee, explained: “Once again, Ecomondo's conference programme is provides the enabling ingredients for a more effective and knowledgeable implementation of the circular economy and ecological transition in Europe and the Mediterranean: an international reference point with an increasingly global outlook on new challenges. This year, the spotlight is on the industrial supply chains with the greatest impact on the environment, but at the same time, there is a continued focus on monitoring and restoring terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems already compromised by pollution and climate change, and on the sustainable enhancement of their biological resources. Of the more than 200 events scheduled, 70 are organised by the Technical Scientific Committee: a pool of more than 80 Italian and international experts that guarantees scientific and technological rigour and the quality of the content.”

Jacopo Morrone, president of the Bicameral Ecomafia Commission, continued: “Ecomondo creates a real dialogue between different skills and profiles, pragmatically addressing the environmental challenges we are facing. Our Constitution requires us to protect the environment and ecosystems. With future generations in mind, it is essential to balance economic growth with the protection of nature. That is why the Commission is exploring new topics, such as the management of emerging waste, from photovoltaic panels to batteries and end-of-life wind turbines. The aim is to strengthen regulatory and control policies in order to leave our children and grandchildren a better environment.

Michele de Pascale, president of the Emilia-Romagna Region, concluded: I greet the opening of the 28th edition of Ecomondo with enormous pleasure. It is an international event that turns Rimini and the Emilia-Romagna region into a crossroads of ideas, solutions and innovations for the ecological transition. Ecomondo is not just a trade show; it is a laboratory for the future, a place where sustainability translates into business, work and knowledge, enabling us to tackle the great challenges of our time together: from climate change to the circular economy, from resource conservation to clean energy. To visitors and operators from all over the world, a warm welcome to our region.”

The opening ceremony was also attended by Corrado Peraboni, CEO of IEG, Alessandra Astolfi, global exhibition director of IEG's Green & Technology Division, and Mauro Delle Fratte, Ecomondo exhibition manager.

The ceremony was followed by the opening of the 14th edition of the States General of the Green Economy, organised by the Sustainable Development Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE) and promoted by the National Council for the Green Economy. This new edition, which opened today with a presentation of the Report on the State of the Green Economy 2025, focuses on the state and prospects of the European ecological transition in the new global context. For the first time this year, the second plenary session, scheduled for Wednesday 5th November, will be held entirely in English, further expanding the event’s international scope.

ECOMONDO AND ANFIA: SAL.VE, THE BIENNIAL EXHIBITION OF ECOLOGICAL VEHICLES, IS BACK

·        On display at IEG’s Rimini Expo Centre from 4th to 7th November, the entire range of industrial vehicles and special equipment for waste collection and street sweeping.

·        Marco Orecchia, President of ANFIA's Ecological Services Vehicles Section: “Participation in SAL.VE is strategic for our Section in order to achieve the goal of increasing the export share of our highly specialized companies.”

Rimini, 3rd November 2025SAL.VE, the biennial Exhibition of Ecological Vehicles, is back at Ecomondo 2025, in partnership with ANFIA, the National Automotive Industry Association.

From 4th to 7th November, the Exhibition will join the other six macro-areas represented at Ecomondo, the green, blue and circular economy event organized by Italian Exhibition Group at Rimini Expo Centre.

SAL.VE will be staged in halls A7 and C7 (West entrance) in a special exhibition area of the expo centre: an opportunity to display, within the international showcase offered by Ecomondo, the urban hygiene supply chain at the service of territorial enhancement with the entire range of equipment for industrial and special vehicles for collecting solid and liquid waste, street sweeping and sewage disposal.

THE SECTOR’S NUMBERS

ANFIA's Ecological Services Vehicles Section represents Italian manufacturing excellence in the field of equipment for the collection and transport of solid, liquid and hazardous waste, sewage disposal and street cleaning. Technological innovation and product sustainability characterize the 19 member companies, which, with a turnover of approximately 630 million euros and more than 1,650 direct employees, represent over 70% of the sector in Italy.

Highly committed to ecological transition, the associates have been working for some time to make vehicles and equipment increasingly eco-sustainable to ensure their fundamental contribution to reducing noise pollution and cutting emissions from urban waste collection and street cleaning. These activities are increasingly important in order to comply with plans to improve air quality in urban areas.

As regards the vehicle fleet, in 2024, 61,021 vehicles with closed, top or rear opening, tipping containers for transporting solid waste, 6,287 cesspool emptying tanks, 3,549 vehicles equipped with sweepers, 923 vehicles for washing waste containers, 76 road sweepers and 62 municipal solid waste compactors were on the Italian roads (ANFIA analysis of ACI data).

WEAK ITALIAN MARKET, EXPORTS TO OVERCOME FRAGMENTATION ARE INCREASING

After 2024, when the Italian market for ecological service vehicles closed with a decline of more than 10% compared to the previous year due to double-digit decreases in both the solid urban waste transport vehicle sector and the special waste tanker sector,” says Marco Orecchia, President of ANFIA's Ecological Services Vehicles Section, “the market is still weak for all sectors in 2025, with a particularly sharp decline in road cleaning vehicle sales, while only bilateral loading equipment is going against the trend.

In terms of power sources, despite an expansion in the range of models available on the market, the market share of electric vehicles is still very limited, almost non-existent in the medium-heavy vehicle segment (12 tonnes and above).

In our country, there is also a high degree of fragmentation in the supply chain (the highest in Europe), which, on the one hand, puts strong pressure on product prices and therefore on manufacturers' margins, and on the other, pushes even the smallest companies to look to new markets. It is precisely in this context that participation in SAL.VE – an important international showcase among the major sustainability and green technology trade shows – is strategic for our Section in order to achieve the objective of increasing the export share of our highly specialised companies.”

SAL.VE is therefore the ideal event for discovering technologies and solutions applied to ecological service vehicles for the transition towards cleaner and more resilient cities.

Comunicato n. 9 del 28/10/2025

ECOMONDO 2025, RIMINI INCREASINGLY SUSTAINABLE, EVEN OUTSIDE THE EXPO CENTRE

●          From 4th to 7th November, Ecomondo will put concrete initiatives into action to reduce its environmental impact and raise public awareness regarding sustainability.

●          Italian Exhibition Group (IEG) has been pursuing an environmental sustainability policy for over 20 years under the “green core” brand and is certified by various international awards.

●          The Expo Centre is a virtuous model of a low environmental impact facility with cutting-edge solutions for energy and water saving.

●           Ecomondo Off: an ecosystem of events, initiatives and workshops throughout the city of Rimini to generate and increase further environmental culture among citizens and visitors.

Rimini, 28 october 2025Ecomondo (Rimini Expo Centre, 4-7 November) is concretely committed not only to showing the best sustainability practices, but also to actively implementing them within its organization. A commitment that can be seen in every aspect of the event, from the design of the exhibition space to awareness-raising initiatives, thus becoming a tangible example of a sustainable event.

COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY IN THE EXPO CENTRE

Rimini Expo Centre, which hosts Ecomondo, was designed and managed in the name of low environmental impact. The facility, awarded with the prestigious international Elca "Building and Green" award in Nuremberg, boasts 160,000 m2 of green areas with over 1,500 plants, 30,000 m2 of lawns and irrigation systems that exclusively use surface groundwater.

Care for the environment and the importance given to this aspect is also found in the lighting: the halls are, in fact, equipped with large windows and ceiling skylights that provide predominantly natural lighting, currently integrated with 2,000 LED projectors which guarantee a reduction in consumption of up to 60% and an annual energy saving of 76,800 kWh (-15 tonnes/year of CO2 in the atmosphere). The objective, included in the investment plan and in line with IEG's sustainability strategy, is to completely replace the Expo Centre’s lighting system with LED technologies by 2028.

Another of the Expo Centre’s strong points is the sustainable management of water resources. The large fountains all recirculate water, the toilets are equipped with controlled-pressure water jets and, during periodic emptying, the water is treated and reused for irrigating the green areas. This meticulous organization leads to an overall saving of 23 million litres of water per year.

Attention to sustainability is also demonstrated by photovoltaic systems integrated into the roofs of the buildings. As of 2022, IEG has had a total installed power of 7,170 kWp between Rimini and Vicenza with a clean electricity production of 8.7 million kWh. This avoids releasing 1,795 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent into the environment.

INCREASINGLY SUSTAINABLE EXHIBITION AREAS

Some of Ecomondo’s exhibition areas, such as the Textile District and the Circular Healthy City, are the result of specific actions made possible due to collaboration between Prostand and Pointex.

Prostand, part of the Italian Exhibition Group, designs and creates trade show and conference stands and is the first Italian company in the sector to have eliminated its CO₂ emissions (through reuse, recycling and offsetting with carbon credits). Pointex has been outfitting the world of events with creativity and innovation for over 30 years, using fireproof and sustainable fabrics that transform trade shows and exhibitions into unique visual experiences.

For the Textile District setup at Ecomondo 2025, Prostand used the new SG01 system, a reusable aluminium load-bearing body, which integrates technical supports for attaching accessories and technologies. Pointex has fitted out the structure using 100% polyester, completely recyclable, fireproof EASYTEX fabric with enormous visual impact. At the end of the event, the EASYTEX will be sent for recycling.

AWARENESS-RAISING INITIATIVES

Ecomondo goes beyond the sustainable management of the event and is always ready to actively promote awareness initiatives.

This year, in fact, the event launched the “WEEE-START: switch on the change” campaign in collaboration with the Hera Group (with the SCART project), the WEEE Coordination Centre (WEEE CC) and the European Week for Waste Reduction Week (EWWR). The initiative involves setting up a special separate collection point at the entrance to the Expo Centre where visitors, exhibitors and stakeholders will easily be able to dispose of their small electronic waste (WEEE).

With the aim of encouraging new generations to become protagonists of change, Ecomondo focuses on environmental education by organizing educational tours for schools which have so far involved 2,756 students from 58 institutions. Furthermore, it organizes SAFTE - Higher Education School for the Ecological Transition, which divulges and enhances the culture of sustainability with the aim of providing participants with the tools to guide company strategies towards innovative and sustainable development.

Ecomondo collaborates with Rippotai in the production of paper instead of polyester lanyards, handmade in the ManoLibera paper mill inside Forlì prison, in synergy with the altreMani work inclusion project. The choice of these lanyards, which combine the sustainability of certified ecological materials with a profound social impact, is a gesture that supports a responsible and socially engaged business model that tangibly contributes to a more inclusive and sustainable future.

Since 2023, Italian Exhibition Group has been collaborating with RE-CIG® in the collection and recycling of cigarette butts inside the Expo Centre. With this initiative, the most widespread and environmentally harmful waste is recovered and transformed into cellulose acetate, a reusable plastic material used to produce new objects. In 2024 alone, IEG avoided the traditional disposal of almost 20 kg of butts - equal to approximately 64,000 cigarettes - which were converted into 7.5 kg of new products, helping to save approximately 45 kg of CO₂ equivalent.

ECOMONDO OFF INITIATIVES

In conjunction with Ecomondo 2025, ECOMONDO RUN - Plogging in Rimini, the main initiative of Ecomondo Off, will be in Rimini in collaboration with E.R.I.C.A. and Fluxo. The aim is to extend environmental awareness beyond the show by actively involving the local community and visitors in concrete action to clean up the environment. Plogging (running or walking while collecting waste) combines physical movement with care for the environment, becoming a moment of awareness and well-being. The event reinforces Ecomondo's commitment to connecting with the city and its territory. The start and finish lines of the event will be at the Spiaggia Libera di San Giuliano Mare in Rimini, from 9 am on Saturday 8th November. ECOMONDO RUN - Plogging in Rimini is just one of the initiatives of Ecomondo Off, a broader project which includes a series of activities organized by Ecomondo in collaboration with the Rimini Municipality, through Rimini Blue Lab, to raise awareness among citizens, starting from the schools.

SUSTAINABILITY CERTIFICATIONS

Ecomondo's commitment to making sustainability the core of the event is demonstrated by international certifications, which show the adoption of high standards in various areas of corporate and event management:

ISO 14001 - Environmental Management System certifies the commitment to minimizing the environmental impact of its activities, from waste reduction to energy saving.

ISO 45001 - Occupational Health and Safety Management System recognizes the adoption of a management system that guarantees high health and safety standards for workers and visitors at the event.

ISO 20121 - Sustainable Event Management System, specific for the events sector, certifies the organization of the event according to sustainability principles, taking into consideration the economic, environmental and social impacts in all phases of the organization.

UNI/Reference Practice 125:2022 Gender Equality Certification obtained for IEG's commitment to promoting gender equality within the organization, guaranteeing equal opportunities, pay equity and an inclusive work environment.

These certifications not only demonstrate IEG's concrete commitment to sustainability, they also provide a framework for the continuous improvement of company practices and of the event itself. They are therefore a significant added value, making it clear to stakeholders and participants that Ecomondo not only promotes sustainability, but also puts it into practice in every aspect of its organisation.

THE ECOMONDO 2025 LAYOUT

●        Seven themed macro-areas and six vertical districts for an integrated vision of the ecological transition

●        Distributed over 166,000 square metres and 30 halls

●        SAL.VE, the Ecological Vehicle Exhibition in partnership with ANFIA is back

Rimini, 28 october  2025 - For its 28th edition (Rimini Expo Centre, 4-7 November), Ecomondo is offering a layout that reflects the growing importance of the ecological transition and the circular economy.

The Italian Exhibition Group event will occupy a total exhibition area of 166,000 square meters across 30 halls, in continuity with the expansion of the 2024 edition and with several new features, such as the return of SAL.VE, the biennial Ecological Vehicle Exhibition, organized in partnership with ANFIA.

The Ecomondo 2025 layout is divided into seven macro thematic areas and six vertical districts. This arrangement will allow visitors to orient themselves easily between the different sections, optimizing the exhibition itinerary and facilitating the encounter between supply and demand in the sustainability and Green Economy sectors.

ECOMONDO 2025: THE EXHIBITION ITINERARY

The West wing halls (A1-A6, C3-C6) as well as some in the East area (B1-B4) will host Waste as Resource, the sector where Ecomondo is leader and one of the event’s most solid. This section enables visitors to explore the most recent innovations in waste collection, management and valorisation processes, understand the importance of recycling as a resource, and learn about circular economy models.

Furthermore, the new WEEE District will also be located in this area with a specific focus on repowering technologies and new recycling plants for electronic waste, photovoltaic panels and wind turbines.

Another new feature of the Ecomondo 2025 layout is the return of the SAL.VE area, the biennial Ecological Vehicle Exhibition: halls A7 and C7 will house the entire production range of equipment for industrial and special vehicles for waste collection and road sweeping.

Halls C1, C2, D1 and part of D2 will be reserved for the Site & Soil Restoration area, a macro-cluster focused on the main technologies for environmental restoration, remediation, and contaminated site management.

East wing halls D2-D4 will provide space for Circular & Regenerative Bio-economy, focusing on processes linked to the regenerative economy and the bioeconomy. Halls B5, part of B6 and D5 will host the Bio-Energy & Agriculture sector, where visitors will not only learn about bio-based circular production processes, but also be updated on the latest technologies for valorising agricultural and non-agricultural wastewater, and for the production of biogas and biomethane.

The Water Cycle & Blu Economy sector has been extended and will be located in halls B6-B8 and D7-D8. Here, issues related to the sustainable management of water resources, purification, aqueducts, the development of the ocean economy and innovative technologies for the blue economy will be further explored.

Hall D6 will host the Earth Observation & Environmental Monitoring area for the latest satellite monitoring technologies which, combined with big data and artificial intelligence models, offer powerful tools for tackling climate change with particular attention to hydrogeological instability, the protection of green areas, soil, water resources and urban health.

THE DISTRICTS

The seven macro-areas will be joined by six vertical districts to complete Ecomondo's exhibition offer.

In this edition of the event, the Trenchless District, dedicated to no-dig technologies for underground infrastructures, which will also host an IATT collective, will be located in the Water Cycle & Blu Economy area, which will also host the Blue Economy District with the dual objective of disseminating good practices and projects related to the circular economy and giving visibility to companies connected to the ocean, sea and coastal worlds.

The Textile District will be an area of exchange that aims to involve all stakeholders in the textile supply chain and draw attention to the importance of a more sustainable model for the sector. The Paper District, on the other hand, will feature sustainable paper design in all its forms, bringing together all the players operating in this production branch with the aim of making the most of the supply chain’s possibilities.

The Circular&Healthy City district will be an exhibition and virtual area to take visitors into the future of built-up environments. Here, visitors will be able to discover how to rethink construction and urban planning, delve into intelligent technologies at the service of the city and improve environmental and collective health by enhancing resources and recycling them more efficiently.

Last but not least, the Innovation District in the South Hall will continue to be the centre of innovation, an area designed as an open innovation path to connect institutions, research centres and companies at the forefront of the ecological transition. Comunicato n. 6 del 28/10/2025

ECOMONDO 2025: GREEN AND CIRCULAR ECONOMY DATA

●        Italy, leader in the green economy: in 2023, the packaging waste recycling rate reached 75.3%, significantly exceeding the EU average and the European objectives for 2030.

●        Over 236,000 tonnes of WEEE collected in Italy in the first eight months of 2025 with 65% made up of large household appliances. Small household appliances sent for recycling are on the increase (+5%).

●        According to LinkedIn, in 2024, 7.7% of all job offers posted on the platform were for “green” roles or positions with specific sustainability-related skills.

Rimini, 28 october 2025 - The 7th National Report on the circular economy, published last May, the result of collaboration between the Circular Economy Network (CEN) and ENEA, outlined a set of encouraging performances for Italy, which maintains an important position at European level despite growing global complexities.

The analysis, which evaluates circularity in various key dimensions (from production and consumption to waste management and the use of secondary raw materials), established the following ranking among the European Union countries: at the top, with the best absolute performance in the EU, was the Netherlands, which scored 70.6 points. This record was particularly driven by excellent results obtained in the production and consumption, waste management and secondary raw material dimensions.

Italy came in second with 65.2 points. A solid result that reflects excellent indicators in the waste management and production and consumption dimensions, establishing the country as a reference point in the circular transition among the continent's large economies. Germany, in third place with 60.6 points, stood out for one of the best scores recorded in the waste management dimension and boasted good performance in terms of ecological sustainability and resilience. Closing the top part of the ranking were France, in fifth place with 58.7 points, and Spain, which took seventh place with 56.9 points.

The most recent data on the circular economy in Italy confirm the country’s clear superiority in terms of efficiency in the use of resources at a European level. Italy has achieved a resource productivity of 4.3 euros of GDP for every kilo of resources consumed. This result is not only significantly higher than the European Union average, which stands at 2.7 euros per kilo, but also exceeds that of Spain (4.1 euros/kg), France (3.5 euros/kg) and Germany (3.4 euros/kg). The excellence of the Italian system is further highlighted in the packaging waste management sector: in 2023, Italy achieved a recycling rate of 75.3%, significantly exceeding the European average of around 67% and, more importantly, it already achieved the EU objectives set for both 2025 (65%) and 2030 (70%).

RECYCLING AND USE OF SECOND MATERIALS: THE FRAMEWORK IN ITALY AND EUROPE

Italy is one of the leading countries in Europe for the effectiveness of its circular economy model, particularly in the industrial recycling and secondary material integration sectors.

A key indicator is the Circular Material Use Rate (CMUR), which measures the share of recycled materials reintroduced into the production system. In 2023, Italy recorded a CMUR of 20.8% (Eurostat data), almost double the European average (equal to 11.8%), which placed the country in second place in the EU-27, surpassed only by the Netherlands (30.6%) and ahead of nations such as France (17.6%), Germany (13.9%) and Spain (8.5%).

Italian excellence is even more evident in Overall Recycling (which includes urban and special waste). Italy boasts the European record with a total recycling rate of 85.6% in 2024, thanks above all to the record performance of key supply chains such as paper and cardboard: 92.3%; steel: 87.8%; glass: 77.4%; aluminium: 70.3%.

CRITICAL RAW MATERIALS AND PLASTIC, CIRCULAR POTENTIAL

In the ecological transition process, critical raw materials, which include elements such as lithium, cobalt, copper, rare earths, graphite and nickel, are highly strategic resources. That is why, through the Critical Eaw Materials Act, the European Union has defined objectives and measures to reduce external dependence in the supply of these materials, promoting extraction and transformation on the continental territory, and increasing their recycling. By 2030 it is expected to extract 10%, refine 40% and recycle 25% of critical materials, limiting dependence on a single supplier country to below 65% for each material.

This process foresees the virtuous use of WEEE (Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment), of which Europe is among the world’s largest producers (4.9 million tonnes in 2022), for example, through urban mining technologies, which enable extracting precious metals from electronic equipment, and virtuous material management policies.

Italy is actively engaged in WEEE valorisation. At a national level, according to data collected by the WEEE Coordination Centre, in the first eight months of 2025, over 236,000 tonnes of WEEE generated by households were collected (+2% compared to the same period in 2024), with large household appliances, such as refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines and dishwashers exceeding 153,000 tonnes (65% of the collection), followed by small household appliances (over 56,000 tons; +5% compared to 2024), screens and monitors (25,000 tons) and light sources (almost 2,000 tons).

As regards plastic, the European Union consumed 62.8 million tonnes (Eurostat 2022 data), generating 42.5 million tonnes of waste, of which approximately 20% was recycled. However, the figure rose for plastic packaging (41%) thanks to consolidated collection systems.

In Italy the value grew further to 48.9%, with 1.12 million tonnes of recycled packaging compared to a production of approximately 2.3 million tonnes.

ADVANCING LAND CONSUMPTION

Despite this high efficiency, a critical issue emerges in land consumption: in the 2012-2022 decade, the average land consumption figure was 68.7 km2, only partially compensated by natural area restoration (just over 8 km2), while the loss of ecosystem services resulted in an economic impact of an estimated 7 to 9 billion euros between 2006 and 2023.

THE FUTURE OF GREEN JOBS

A crucial aspect of the circular economy is also green jobs. According to a LinkedIn report, in 2024, 7.7% of job offers published on the platform involved green positions or roles that required skills related to sustainability.

Nevertheless, a significant challenge has emerged: the difficulty in finding profiles with adequate green skills. In fact, it is estimated that by 2030, almost one in five jobs related to sustainability could remain vacant due to a lack of qualified candidates. The average annual growth since 2020 is 2.55% while 2023 saw a leap to 4.63%, highlighting a gap between supply and demand for specialized skills.

According to Unioncamere's Excelsior Information System on medium-term employment forecasts, the reference time horizon is updated to the five-year period 2025-2029. For different forecast scenarios  processed for between 2025 and 2029, the Italian labour market could need between 3.3 and 3.7 million employees. Most of the requirements will be determined by the need to replace workers leaving the job market, while the employment stock could grow over the five-year period from a minimum of 237,000 units up to a maximum of 679,000.

The fastest growing green professional jobs in Italy include sustainability specialist (+19.70%), sustainability consultant (+11.40%) and sustainability manager (+9.62%).
