Towards the New Landfill BAT: Where do we stand?

Tulipano Room Hall B6

Directive (EU) 2024/1785 has also amended Directive 1999/31/EC on the landfill of waste, removing the provision that previously allowed the requirements set out in Directive 1999/31/EC to be recognised as sector-specific Best Available Techniques (BAT). The adoption of BAT conclusions for landfills under Directive 2010/75/EU is expected to address the main environmental issues related to landfill operations, including methane emissions.
In light of the launch of preparatory work at the European level for the definition of the new landfill BAT, this session will bring together key sector stakeholders to discuss the current state of play.
