The States General of the Green Economy

During the Opening Plenary Session, the Report on the State of the Green Economy 2026 will be presented, providing updated data on the main pillars of Europe’s ecological transition: decarbonisation, circularity, and the restoration of natural capital. The Report will highlight the progress achieved, while also addressing the delays and critical issues emerging in the new global scenario. It will provide an updated overview of the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of the ecological transition.

The presentation of the Report will be followed by a high-level discussion on the economic, political, and institutional prospects for the future of the ecological transition.

The International Plenary Session will examine the main dynamics of the ecological transition at global level, with contributions from leading international experts and institutional representatives from Europe, the United States, China, and Africa.

Taking place between two major international events — the U.S. midterm elections and COP31 on climate change — the session will provide an opportunity to analyse emerging geopolitical dynamics, ongoing economic and industrial strategies, and the future prospects of the green economy. The discussion will focus on the key issues shaping the transition, including climate, the circular economy, natural capital, the bioeconomy, finance, and corporate strategies. It will foster dialogue among the world’s major economic regions on the opportunities and challenges that will shape the future of the global economy.

The States General of the Green Economy is the leading annual event for the Italian green economy, promoted by the Fondazione per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, and under the patronage of the European Commission and the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy.

Launched in 2012, the initiative has become a benchmark for thousands of companies, involving over 9,000 stakeholders between 2012 and 2025.

The States General of the Green Economy offer an analysis and update on trends and priorities in Italy’s strategic green economy sectors. They also facilitate an international comparison of climate performance, policies, and investments across the USA, China, Europe and, as of 2025, Africa.

Each year, the event includes the publication of the Report on the State of the Green Economy, alongside two days of conferences and in-depth discussions held in Rimini during Ecomondo.
