STATES GENERAL OF THE GREEN ECONOMY
Join the 15th edition
In a global context marked by growing geopolitical instability, tensions in energy markets and vulnerabilities linked to dependence on imported strategic resources and materials, the green economy is emerging as a key industrial strategy to strengthen the competitiveness, security and resilience of economic systems.
The 15th edition of the States General of the Green Economy, to be held on 3–4 November 2026 in Rimini, within the framework of Ecomondo, will focus on the role of the ecological transition in today’s global scenario, highlighting how investments in energy efficiency, renewable energy, the circular economy and the sustainable use of resources represent concrete tools to reduce vulnerabilities within production systems and create new development opportunities.
The topics
Fifteen years after the launch of the States General of the Green Economy, the initiative will provide an opportunity to reflect on the contribution of the green economy to the transformation of the Italian and European economic model. The growing dependence on imports of fossil fuels and strategic raw materials demonstrates the need to accelerate a transition capable of improving the autonomy, stability and competitiveness of national economies.
From this perspective, the ecological transition should not be seen as a constraint, but as a strategic driver for innovation in production processes, reducing resource-related costs, strengthening industrial capacity and addressing the impacts of climate change. Delaying transition targets does not reduce risks; rather, it contributes to increasing them, amplifying the economic and social consequences of the climate crisis.
Through dialogue among businesses, institutions, experts and national and international stakeholders, the States General of the Green Economy 2026 will explore the policies and solutions needed to build a more sustainable, competitive and resilient development model, reaffirming the green economy as one of the key strategic pathways for the future of Italy and Europe.
The States General of the Green Economy
The States General of the Green Economy is the leading annual event for the Italian green economy, promoted by the Fondazione per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, and under the patronage of the European Commission and the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy.
Launched in 2012, the initiative has become a benchmark for thousands of companies, involving over 9,000 stakeholders between 2012 and 2025.
The States General of the Green Economy offer an analysis and update on trends and priorities in Italy’s strategic green economy sectors. They also facilitate an international comparison of climate performance, policies, and investments across the USA, China, Europe and, as of 2025, Africa.
Each year, the event includes the publication of the Report on the State of the Green Economy, alongside two days of conferences and in-depth discussions held in Rimini during Ecomondo.
