Antonio Navarra

Biography

President of the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC)

Antonio Navarra is an Italian climate scientist and Full Professor of Meteorology and Climatology at the University of Bologna.
He earned his degree in Physics in Bologna and completed his M.A. and Ph.D. at Princeton University.
His career includes major research institutions in Europe and the United States, with long-standing collaboration with the National Center for Atmospheric Research and visiting appointments at Harvard, the University of Maryland, the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, and GFDL/Princeton.
He serves as President of the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC), which he helped build into Italy’s national center for climate modeling and impact research.
His work focuses on climate dynamics, ocean-atmosphere interactions, sea surface temperature variability, extreme events, and advanced climate data analysis.
He is the author of over 130 scientific articles in major journals and contributed to the IPCC's fifth assessment report. He has held high-level international roles, including chairman of the United Nations Adaptation Fund Committee and the EU Climate Joint Programming Initiative (JPI-Climate).
He also advised several doctoral students, post-doc and actively contributed to the international scientific conversation.
