Innovation for the Circular Bioeconomy

The geopolitical instability of recent years has highlighted the vulnerability of the European industrial system, which relies on imported raw materials for more than 22% of its needs, rising to 47% in the case of Italy. The efficient use of resources and the closing of material cycles, in line with circular economy principles, have therefore become essential to ensure competitiveness and strategic autonomy. In this context, the Circular Bioeconomy offers a major opportunity, particularly through the development and application of biotechnology across multiple sectors, with the aim of enhancing the value of biological resources.
