CALL FOR PAPERS

According to the last estimates of European Commission, an average European generates about 5 tonnes of waste every year, only 38% of which is recycled. Despite good performances of some European Countries, other territories show a significant lag in the approach to European targets of circular economy, still sending into landfills even more than 60% of the waste they generate. Besides an improved effort in national policies and management initiatives, a fundamental push could come from technological advancements, which could increase the worth of disposed discards, retrieve secondary products and attain a better energy balance. These results would lead Europe to lower the recourse to landfill and provide valuable raw materials reducing the dependence from other Countries and reducing the circularity gap.
