Francesco Sofia

Francesco Sofia is Director of the Directorate for the Management, Development and Security of Information Systems at AGEA, where he directs innovation and information systems management activities in support of the Agency's institutional processes, with particular reference to the National Agricultural Information System (SIAN), the central technological infrastructure for the management and integration of data and processes related to agricultural policy. Holding a degree in Information Sciences, he has developed extensive experience in the management of complex computer systems, network design and the development of technological solutions. Previously, he held management positions at the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, including that of Director of the Office for Automated Information Systems and Head of the Statistics Office. The Directorate for the Management, Development and Security of Information Systems is engaged in the development and evolution of digital systems to support the management, monitoring and control of agricultural activities, through the integration of administrative, territorial and Earth observation data. In this context, remote sensing and geospatial technologies play a strategic role in monitoring cultivated land, verifying agricultural declarations and interventions, and strengthening the traceability of activities carried out on the territory. The integrated use of satellite data and information from agricultural information systems helps to make controls more efficient, timely and reliable, reducing the burden on farmers and supporting more sustainable resource management. These themes are part of the broader digital innovation path promoted by the Directorate, aimed at enhancing AGEA's information assets and fostering a more innovative, sustainable and competitive agriculture.
