Event
The EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles, launched on 30 March 2022, is gradually turning into concrete actions. As for production with Ecodesign, Digital Passport, Reach and End of Waste regulations.
The revision of Directive 2008/98 foresees the institution of EPR regimes in Member States to ensure the proper management of post-consumer textile waste with the obligation of separate collection of this urban waste.
In Italy, in recent decades, an efficient supply chain has been developed for the collection, selection and enhancement of this fraction of urban waste, which has consolidated specific skills involving municipalities, social economy entities and sorting companies in the management of volumes that are still limited compared to European expectations.
The imminent advent of the EPR regime should guarantee, through the take back schemes of producers, an economic and organizational contribution to the current system. This situation will force the actual system to face the challenges of increasing collections, optimizing preparation for reuse, defending and strengthening the global reuse markets and developing a strong quality recycling industry.
