International drivers of the Green Economy in a challenging geopolitical context
Presentation of the Report on the State of the Green economy 2026
The fifteenth edition of the States General of the Green Economy is dedicated to the role of the green economy in the current critical geopolitical context: no longer solely as an environmental proposal, but as an industrial strategy capable of strengthening Europe’s and Italy’s competitiveness and resilience.
Dependence on imported fossil fuels, together with the high reliance on imports of numerous strategic materials essential for development, represents a source of vulnerability linked to price volatility and security of supply.
Against a global backdrop marked by uncertainty and recurring shocks, the General States of the Green Economy 2026 will explore the green economy as a concrete pathway to reducing dependence on imports, containing energy costs, and improving efficiency and competitiveness in the use of resources and materials.
During the Opening Plenary Session, the Report on the State of the Green Economy 2026 will be presented, providing updated data on the main pillars of Europe’s ecological transition: decarbonization, circularity, and the restoration of natural capital.
The Report will highlight the progress achieved, while also addressing the delays and critical issues emerging in the new global scenario. It will provide an updated overview of the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of the ecological transition.
The presentation of the Report will be followed by a high-level discussion on the economic, political, and institutional prospects for the future of the ecological transition.
The full programme will be available shortly.
