Event
The session "Sustainable strategies for the remediation of polluted sites: developments in national and international applied research", which will be held on November 6th as part of Ecomondo 2025, presents a broad overview of the most recent developments in applied research, with particular attention to the integration between biotechnological approaches, in situ technologies and tools for sustainable environmental remediation management.
The first part of the session will be dedicated to the presentation of the European cluster ALL4BIOREM, with three projects addressing the topic of systemic bioremediation of contaminated habitats, synergistic integration for mixed pollutant removal and circular solutions for environmental sustainability. Following this, several national and international case studies will illustrate the application of innovative technologies such as combined injection of ISCR, oxygen and surfactants, advanced biomolecular characterization for chlorinated solvent decontamination, full-scale applications of ERD and ISCO technologies, as well as solutions for PFAS contamination remediation in high-concentration source areas.
Multidisciplinary initiatives that combine remediation with urban regeneration, the use of waste materials in in situ treatments, soil mixing techniques, and tools for regulatory framework and sustainable reuse of brownfield sites will also be presented. The session will conclude with examples of Nature-Based Solutions, high-resolution monitoring, and proposals for defining operational guidelines.
Alongside the oral presentations, a rich poster session will enrich the program, including over twenty contributions regarding operational experiences in Sites of National Interest (SIN), new technologies for aquifer treatment, circular and sustainable approaches to waste and contaminated materials management, the use of biochar and innovative biosorbents, and digital tools for monitoring and managing contaminated sites.
