Event
In recent months, the sustainability debate has undergone a profound transformation. The boldness of the so-called 'predators' – political leaders and major technology players – is calling into question the legitimacy of multilateral institutions and the system of rules on which our societies are founded. This is happening at a sustained pace, shifting the attention of Policy maker towards issues of security, strategic autonomy and geopolitical competitiveness. Sustainability institutions and norms are no exception.
Europe too is redefining its approach. With the Competitiveness Compass and the initiatives linked to the Clean Industrial Deal, the European Union confirms the goals of the transition, but changes its language and priorities: less emphasis on compliance, greater focus on the ability of businesses to innovate, invest, attract capital and compete globally. Decarbonisation is thus brought within the framework of a broader European industrial policy, aimed at strengthening competitiveness, the resilience of strategic supply chains and the continent's technological autonomy.
In this scenario, the questions companies face are concrete and urgent: how can sustainability and competitiveness be reconciled? Where should we accelerate and where, instead, simplify? Which investments generate the greatest strategic value today? What should we stop doing, what should we continue, and what should we start?
The aim of the meeting is to explore the solutions through which to navigate a period of profound transformation, identifying the conditions that allow sustainability to become a concrete driver of growth, resilience and competitive advantage for European businesses.
In the years ahead, indeed, the priority for companies will be to take a leading role in the transition: in an unsustainable market, no business can thrive in the long term.
