The ability to define and implement decarbonisation strategies and plans has become crucial to achieving net-zero targets. Within these pathways, the measurement of the carbon footprint has become increasingly important and has expanded from large corporations to SMEs, especially with the emergence of so-called “Scope 3” emissions, now considered essential to ensure credible corporate commitments to decarbonisation. This new strategic approach has extended across the entire supply chain and, in more advanced cases, the full value chain, in order to ensure that objectives, programs, and actions are supported by robust scientific evidence and methodologies.
International initiatives such as the Science Based Targets require detailed emissions measurement, although they can be highly demanding. Among the various measurement tools, the life-cycle approach is emerging as the most robust, as it provides a comprehensive view of emissions, including those generated downstream of production. At the same time, regulations and voluntary standards—such as EU directives and the ISO High Level Structure—require the integration of decarbonisation into corporate strategies. The EU has also introduced stringent rules for communicating carbon neutrality in the market.
Following the previous editions in 2023, 2024, and 2025, this workshop aims to analyse the challenge of measuring CO₂eq emissions in support of defining strategies and improvement plans for decarbonisation.
