Within the European Union’s waste hierarchy, prevention occupies the highest priority, as it directly reduces the use of resources and avoids the need to treat complex waste streams. To be effective, prevention strategies must be complemented by end of life management approaches that keep materials circulating for as long as possible. This requires combining multiple recovery and reuse options, increasingly supported by digital technologies and artificial intelligence. Ensuring that environmental assessment procedures guide both corporate strategies and public policies remains essential, and this depends on selecting robust and meaningful sustainability indicators.
This seminar will showcase practical examples and case studies on waste prevention, the management of by products and production residues, and methods for assessing environmental performance aimed at improving recycling and recovery operations.
Keywords: solid waste management consortia, waste collection and sorting authorities, technological research centers, waste recycling and recovery industries
