Loredano Pollegioni

Loredano Pollegioni is Full Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Insubria, where he coordinates a research group active in enzymology, protein engineering and biotechnology. His work focuses on the development and engineering of enzymes for biotechnological, biomedical and industrial applications, with growing attention to circular bioeconomy, biocatalysis and the sustainable valorisation of biomass, waste and materials. He has coordinated numerous research projects, developing biotechnological approaches for lignin valorisation, next-generation biorefineries and value recovery from waste materials, including the ProPla – Proteins from Plastics project, dedicated to the biotechnological conversion of plastics within the circular economy. Since 2024 he has been the University of Insubria's Delegate for Research and Technological Innovation, and since 2026 he has been Director of the Interuniversity Consortium for Biotechnology (CIB). He is also Treasurer of the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB). His scientific activity is recognised at an international level, placing him among the most cited researchers in the fields of Biochemistry and Biotechnology.
