Isabella De Bari

Biography

Isabella De Bari is Head of the Bioenergy, Biorefineries and Green Chemistry Division at ENEA (Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development) and has more more than 25 years of experience in research, innovation and technology transfer in the development of biorefinery, biofuel and bioeconomy technologies. She has led multidisciplinary activities in thermochemical and biotechnological technologies, biomass pretreatment and fractionation, lignin valorization, microbial processes, bio-based chemicals and integrated biorefinery systems. Her expertise includes process optimization and pilot-scale technology scale-up. She has contributed to several flagship projects, including BIOLYFE, BIT3G, REBIOCHEM and COMETA. Dr. De Bari plays an active role in European research and innovation initiatives. She is the Italian representative in IEA Bioenergy Task 42 'Biorefineries in the Circular Economy', represents ENEA within the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC), contributes to the activities of the European Technology and Innovation Platform Bioenergy (ETIP Bioenergy), supporting the definition of future priorities for advanced biofuels and renewable fuels in Europe. She has served on the Scientific Committee of the European Biomass Conference and Exhibition (EUBCE) and was General Chair of EUBCE 2023. Dr. De Bari is also a member of the Board of Directors of Cluster SPRING, the Italian Circular Bioeconomy Cluster, promoting innovation, sustainability and industrial competitiveness within the national bioeconomy. Author of numerous scientific papers, and books, she is actively involved in fostering collaboration among academia, industry and policymakers. Her current activities focus on sustainable fuels, circular carbon systems, industrial decarbonization, integrated biorefineries and in many innovative technologies supporting Europe's transition to a climate-neutral and resource-efficient economy.
