Filomena Pietrapertosa

Biography

Environmental and Land Use Engineer, Ph.D. Senior Researcher at the National Research Council – Institute for Integrated Methodologies for Environmental Monitoring (IMIOT). Filomena conducts research in the field of climate planning at the local scale, with a particular focus on the assessment of climate change adaptation strategies, on achieving climate neutrality and on strengthening sustainable energy transition processes. She has solid experience in international cooperation and is actively involved in the activities of EERA JP Smart Cities as co-chair of Vertical Sub-Programme n.3 'Urban Resilience & Integrated Sustainability'. Furthermore, she is part of the coordinating group of the EURO LCP Initiative, a well-established network of scholars with members in all European states that, for over 10 years, has been monitoring, studying and evaluating the state of local climate planning in Europe. Committed to science–policy dialogue, she collaborates with European and international institutions, such as GGGI and JRC, and is involved in numerous European and international networks including MedECC, IPAM and LGMA (Adaptation and Multilevel Governance working groups) on issues related to climate governance, urban climate strategies and the assessment of planning instruments. As an Ambassador of the European Climate Pact, she organises and takes part in numerous science communication initiatives with the aim of raising awareness among students, citizens and local communities about the challenges and opportunities posed by the climate crisis. Throughout her career she has coordinated and evaluated numerous scientific and technological projects at national and European level and is the author of over 50 scientific publications in prestigious international journals.
