Andrea Dominijanni

Andrea Dominijanni is Associate Professor of Geotechnics at the Department of Structural, Building and Geotechnical Engineering of the Politecnico di Torino. Since 2022 he has been President of the International Technical Committee 'Environmental Geotechnics' – TC 215 of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE). He has delivered numerous invited lectures at international conferences. In particular, he has been an invited speaker at the following international conferences: European Young Geotechnical Engineers' Conference (Vienna, Austria, 2004), International Young Geotechnical Engineers' Conference (Osaka, Japan, 2005), International Congress on Environmental Geotechnics (Cardiff, UK, 2006), International Symposium on Coupled Phenomena in Environmental Geotechnics (Turin, Italy, 2013), European Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (Reykjavik, Iceland, 2019), All-Russian Conference with International Participation 'Deep foundations and geotechnical problems of territories' (Perm, Russia, 2021), Danube – European Conference on Geotechnical Engineering (2023), International Congress on Environmental Geotechnics (Chania, Greece, 2023), Environmental Geotecnology, Recycled Waste Materials and Sustainable Engineering Conference (Warsaw, Poland, 2024). He is the author of over 100 scientific publications including papers in international journals, conference proceedings, book chapters and books. His main research activities concern the modelling of contaminant transport phenomena in soils, the characterisation of the chemical, hydraulic and mechanical properties of high specific surface area clays (bentonites), the application of risk analysis to landfills, the assessment of the sustainability of containment systems for waste and contaminated soils, and the design of containment systems through hydraulic isolation of contamination.
