Alessandro Bratti

Biography

Graduated in Agricultural Sciences, with a PhD in Agricultural Entomology and a Specialisation in Plant Diseases, he was a Researcher at the University of Ferrara. As a Researcher, he carried out part of his research on biological control in agriculture at the USDA TX in College Station and Weslaco in the United States. He served as Councillor at the Municipality of Ferrara and President of the National Association Agenda 21 locale, and subsequently as Director of Arpa Emilia Romagna. From 2008 to 2017 he was a Member of Parliament at the Chamber of Deputies. President of the Bicameral Commission of Inquiry into Illicit Activities Connected to the Waste Cycle in the XVII legislature (Ecomafie Commission). He served as Director General of Ispra from 2017 to 2022. From 2022 to 2025 he was Secretary General of the District Basin Authority of the River Po. He was a Member of the Steering Committee of the Italia Meteo Agency. Associate Researcher at the Cnr since 2022. From 2020 to 2023 he was Vice-President of the European Environment Agency representing the Italian Government for 3 years. In October 2024 he was elected to the INBO (International Network of Basin Organizations) World Committee in the European representation. In May 2025 he became President of Euro-INBO. He has carried out consultancy activities for international organisations. From 1 January 2026 he is a Member of the Arera Board. Author of 90 works including academic and popular publications.
