Event
This workshop will explore the role of digitalisation and strategic investments in strengthening water resilience and system performance. A key focus will be on scaling up smart metering for all, enabling data-driven management, improved efficiency, and greater transparency across water services.
The session will highlight the contribution of advanced EU initiatives such as the Digital Twin of the Ocean, Destination Earth, and the Copernicus Water Thematic Hub in supporting predictive modelling, monitoring, and decision-making. These tools are essential to enhance planning capacities and anticipate risks at multiple scales.
Particular attention will be given to leakage reduction through digital solutions, integrating real-time monitoring and asset management. The workshop will also address the growing importance of securing water infrastructure, in line with the CER Directive and NIS2, strengthening cybersecurity and resilience against emerging threats.
Finally, the role of early warning systems for droughts and floods will be discussed, showcasing how digital technologies can improve preparedness, risk management, and rapid response in the face of climate-related extremes.
