Energy and carbon audit are the basis to support decisions to achieve efficiency and optimization. However, urban water cycle has been characterized by substantial lack of European and national standard methods, clear benchmark, verification and certification of performances. Recent European and national actions and initiatives have advanced the knowledge and tools to audit wastewater treatment plants and certify performances of energy and carbon efficiency. The workshop will present results from innovative international and activities to audit, certify and improve energy and carbon footprint of wastewater treatment and urban water cycle even towards optimization of the water-energy-carbon nexus
